Why cut down trees when you already have cardboard?

Interview with Rustem Karimov: How ixs-pal® corrugated board pallets are changing large-format logistics.

Rustem Karimov

Rustem, could you tell us how the idea to replace large wooden pallets with cardboard came about?

— I was visiting a major corrugated cardboard plant in Europe when I noticed something: wooden pallets for non-standard packaging were being custom-made for each order.

They had to be stored, transported—it was costly and inefficient. That’s when I thought, why not simplify the process? That’s how the idea of ixs-pal® was born—a modular cardboard pallet you can assemble from four parts, right on site.

What’s the main advantage of ixs-pal®?

Flexibility and savings. Four basic modules can be glued together in any configuration. You can even add more modules to build a pallet of any size—for example, 240×140 cm. It doesn’t require separate production or complicated logistics like wooden pallets. Plus, cardboard doesn’t break, rot, or take up warehouse space.

How does this impact costs?

— Significantly. Wooden pallets with non-standard dimensions are like ordering a custom-made suit only to throw it away. With ixs-pal®, the costs are much lower, and clients gain a pricing advantage—which allows them to save money or offer discounts.

And what about sustainability? That’s a major concern today.

— Absolutely. Using wood for pallets to transport cardboard packaging just doesn’t make sense. We already have cardboard in-house, and we use it for the pallets. It’s eco-friendly, aligns with sustainability goals, and reduces our carbon footprint.

Why should corrugated manufacturers consider installing a line for ixs-pal® production?

— Because it’s a competitive edge. First, it lowers production costs, allowing manufacturers to offer better prices. Second, it simplifies operations—no separate production or certification processes are required. Third, it’s a move toward sustainability, which resonates with clients who prioritize environmental responsibility. And finally, it’s modern and visually appealing—cardboard pallets just look clean.

What’s the most compelling argument for manufacturers to adopt ixs-pal®?

It’s an investment in efficiency and the future. The ixs-pal® line unlocks new possibilities for corrugated packaging, making your business more agile and competitive. You’re not just producing pallets—you’re rewriting the rules of logistics.

And what would you say to manufacturers who are still unsure?

If you’re still hauling around wooden pallets, you’re stuck in the past. ixs-pal® is simpler, more cost-effective, and smarter. Give it a try—and your clients will thank you.
